Question
I'm 16 and am interested in starting a career as a rally car driver.  What do I need to do to do this?

Answer
Hi Ryan:

Driving experience is first. You get that racing Go Karts. Look on the internet for information about World Karting Association. Find a group near you and join.  You can rent Karts to start off, then buy what you can afford and race every weekend.

Second, the only organization that pursues rallying at all is the Sports Car Club of America, or SCCA  you can find them at www.SCCA,org. Again, do a search for your local group and contact them.  Then it will depend on the size of the rallying done in your area. (There's none here in Florida)

Third, and most important is STAY IN SCHOOL and go to college. No matter what you do, education is vitally important these days.

That's all I have for now. let me know if I can be of more help !

Experience

I have been racing for 20 years, I have been the Central Florida SCCA Regional Championship points for 5 years running, and won the championship in my class 2 times. During my first start in the 60's I won many solo awards and the State Championship Drags. I serve as a senior instructor for SCCA, and have taught in Mercedes AMG events at Daytona, and Dodge Viper Days at Sebring International. I have been in the thick of the competition for all of my career. At one time or another I have driven race cars at speeds nearing 195 MPH. It's quite a ride !
