Question
QUESTION: Can you tell me which are the top brands, in your opinion, for the racing clutches and driveline components used in NASCAR? How do we assess the performance of these?

ANSWER: I believe they mostly use Tilton clutch components, Jericho 4 speed transmissions, and a Frankland or Halibrand quick change rear end.  The selelction of a rear end though is  up to the builder, (as is the rest within  limits).  Just a very few years ago , they mostly relied on the relatively stock Ford 9" differential with a posi-traction unit installed.

QUESTION: Can you tell me how good are Quartermaster and TexRacing? How do they compare with Tilton and Jericho?

Thanks

Answer
I would consider Tilton and Quartermaster to be equals.  I've never heard of Tex Racing trannys. Being a road racer I'm slightly more familiar with the Jericho and Weisman 5 speed gearboxes. For that, I would select the Jericho, though the Weisman might be superior it is also about $14,000.00 compared to about $6000.00 for the Jericho.

As you can see, you need to bring your wallet to this picnic, in is NOT cheap !!

Experience

I have been racing for 20 years, I have been the Central Florida SCCA Regional Championship points for 5 years running, and won the championship in my class 2 times. During my first start in the 60's I won many solo awards and the State Championship Drags. I serve as a senior instructor for SCCA, and have taught in Mercedes AMG events at Daytona, and Dodge Viper Days at Sebring International. I have been in the thick of the competition for all of my career. At one time or another I have driven race cars at speeds nearing 195 MPH. It's quite a ride !
