Answer
Hi Adam:

You're not going to like my answer, but here goes.

Get yourself a $1000-$2000.00  car, and use the rest of the money to get a good education.   From the way you write, you need it badly. Sorry, but I do tell the truth.  A 17 year old young man has more important things to worry about than cars.

Once you've done that, you will be old enough, and have a good enough job that you can afford to buy something suitable for your needs.

These days souping up is not as easy as it once was.  Most cars are computer controlled to the point that modifications are nearly impossible.  The race cars you see on TV are built especially for racing and do not have the computer controls. Basically they are equipped like cars were 30 to 35 years ago.

I hope you'll take my advise about schooling, it's hard to see how important it is at your age, but trust me, you'll have a much happier life if you forget the neat car for now, and use that money toward advanced training.

Good luck

Experience

I have been racing for 20 years, I have been the Central Florida SCCA Regional Championship points for 5 years running, and won the championship in my class 2 times. During my first start in the 60's I won many solo awards and the State Championship Drags. I serve as a senior instructor for SCCA, and have taught in Mercedes AMG events at Daytona, and Dodge Viper Days at Sebring International. I have been in the thick of the competition for all of my career. At one time or another I have driven race cars at speeds nearing 195 MPH. It's quite a ride !
