Question
QUESTION: Was given a 91 LC.  Having problems with the anti theft devices.  No owners
manual came with it and I have no idea if the alarm system is factory or after
market. The key fobs are not the same.  The person I received the vehicle
from
was having some issues with the vehicle not starting and the alarm going off
when opening the doors.  The said that they could not get the alarm to shut
off
and would sometimes not start.  They recently replaced the battery.   I last
locked
the vehicle and could hear the alarm engage.  Went out the next morning and
it
will do nothing.  The battery 'seemed' dead.  I don't believe that it is.  (I have
dealt
with a lot of dead batteries and this is different.)  Is there anyway to bypass
the
anti theft device and the alarm?  Don't want to put a lot of money into it.  I
only
need the doors to lock and manually would be fine with me.  Live in a rural
area
not concerned with anybody steeling it and if they do they can have it.

ANSWER: Gotcha, let's try to put it into valet/service mode,
and then try to reset the alarm to default mode.

Look under the dash area for a button or, a toggle
switch. When you locate it, turn on the ignition
key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.

At this point. the alarm would have reset.
If this had a starter kill relay installed,
it would now be opened, and the engine would
turn over when tried.

You would repeat these steps to go back to
user mode to see if this was corrected.

Let me know if it works for yours.

QUESTION: Thanks for the response.  There are two toggle switches.  One just below the
LED on the dash and one tucked under the dash.  I tried the above advice with
both buttons with no luck.  There also is a "device" by the emergency brake
pedal that has a key hole and key that resembles a pop/soda machine key.  This
says AudioVox on it leading me to believe that this is after market.  I also tried
to unlock this and then lock it with the ignition key at the on position.  There
also is a mysterious hole in the dash that at one time could of had another
button there but now it is just a hole. Hope that is not the button I need!  Still
wondering if it may be easier just to disconnect the anti theft and alarm and
hope for the best?  Thanks in advance for your response!

Answer
Hmmmm, confusing, and since I can
not see or inspect it, I opt for removal.
Hard to advise on this as it seems to have more then
the normal amount of systems in it.

Think about removing all the foreign system's wiring
and start from scratch. Best way really if you have
several devices in there, and no knowledge
of how any of them work. :>(
