Question
1996 pontiac grand am's do not come with a passlock system that has a chip in the key! so that cannot be what is wrong with it i even went and talked to the local gm garage mechanic and asked him about it even had a gm key made for that make and model and year DOES NOT HAVE A CHIP IN THE KEY FOR A PASSLOCK SYSTEM. i have read this on more then one website that their is a chip in the key when their isnt. so trying to passlock that system in this car is worthless got any other ideas?

Answer
It would not be in the metal of the key, but the black
of the fob that houses this one fuel rail in.
But it is there. The notes from all 6 data bases
I use here, and from my own remote start
installation experience, shows the
1996 Pontiac Grand Am to have PASSLOCK 1.
(see at www.passlock1.com)

If yours does not, I am guessing it was
modified after it left the factory floor,
and I'd need to inspect it
to see the work done, so I could advise
you better.

But from what I know, that's the trouble that
fit's the description you gave on this vehicle.
