Auto Theft Prevention/1999 Chevy Silverado anti-theft problem...

Question
I have a 1999 Chevy Silverado.  Tonight my passenger side window would not go up, using either the driver side controls or the passenger side controls.  When I pushed the window button on the driver side controls to raise the passenger window, I heard a clicking sound coming from the passenger side controls.  While the truck was running, I unplugged the passenger side controls, then tried to use the driver side controls again... still no luck.  Then with the engine still running, I re-plugged in the passenger side controls.  As soon as I did the truck shut off and the security message on the dash came on.  When I try to restart the truck it just turns over, but will not start.  This is the first time I have ever had any problems with the truck... I am afraid that I have inadvertently activated the security system.  Fortunately it is not supposed to rain tonight since my window is still down, and I cannot start my truck to put in the garage.  Do you have any suggestions?  Thanks in advance for any and all assistance you can provide.

Answer
Not an uncommon problem with this Truck.

This vehicle has a the PASSLOCK II key based
engine disabling system, and from the description,
it appears you've reset the VATS somehow.

This is a problem that won't just
go away either. It needs to be addressed soon.

The car does not recognise the chip in the ignition
key when that happens. When removing the power,
you inadvertently wiped the memory as well.

You can try to put the key
in the ignition, turn to the on position & wait at
least 10 mins like that when it happens, and that
MIGHT work. But after awhile, it will stop working at all.
Your ignition switch VATS reader assembly may be to blame.

In some cases, the VATS (GM'S VEHICLE ANTI THEFT SYSTEM)
will re learn the code this way, and will then
allow the restart all the time. But if this does not work,
then go to any GM vehicle dealer to have the service department
evaluate the issue, & re code it.

Good luck I hope method 1 does the trick!

You can do a permanant bypass on this system.
see the PLJX bypass kit at www.PASSLOCK2.com

Let me know what your solution was.
