Auto Theft Prevention/2004 Grand Cherokee OEM Alarm
Expert: INSTALLSUPPORT - 9/25/2007
QuestionQUESTION: I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee which i purchased new. I presently have a problem that the starter is disabled and i can not reset the alarm. There is a flashing red LED on the dash to the left of the steering column. This LED is flashing rapidly, not normal slow blink. I also have a black reset button on the driver's side kick panel. When I turn the key to start the car, the alarm speaker under the hood sets off and car wont start. Tried disconnecting the battery for one hour and re-connecting it. When I do this the LED on the dash returns to a SLOW blink, but when you try to start the car the alarn horn goes off again and the LED on the dash blins fast again and I can't stop it with reset button. Any ideas? I would appreciate any help.
Thanks,
Doug
ANSWER: Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
(doubtfull since none of the notes show this
car as having a factory alarm system)
Or,
is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?
Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take, to help you to fix this
situation you're in quickly.

QUESTION: LED in dash area, siren going off, no flashing lights.
Thanks,
Doug
AnswerGotcha, let's put it into valet/service mode,
and try to reset the alarm to default mode.
Look under the dash area for a button or, a toggle
switch. When you locate it, turn on the ignition
key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.
At this point. the alarm would have reset.
If this had a starter kill relay installed,
it would now be opened, and the engine would
turn over when tried.
You would repeat these steps to go back to
user mode to see if this was corrected.
Let me know if it works for yours.
