Question
QUESTION: While attending a banquet my Lincoln was stolen off the street. This car has PATS and I don't know how this was done so quickly. No sign of any broken glass. I thought that this system was all that, now i think that it is old technology, these car jackers today seem to be smart and quick. Can you tell me how this was possible with this type of anti-thief system?

ANSWER: Obviously, going into "how" it was done
in depth is a bad idea here.

Suffice it to say that the sophistication
levels are up there these days. Aside from lift
trucks that can literally "pick" up the car from a
parallel parking spot, A career thief now is a specialist,
and is usually is "pointed" to any given luxury vehicle,
and provided with the tools to affect a "clean get away".

Everything from code emulators, to bad guy valet
parking attendents, can move a car off the streets these
days without too much fuss and mess.

Once they have time with the vehicle after it's stolen,
they can then circumvent the electronic barriers installed,
& then it's really up to the individual who stole it as to
it's future.

There are better ways to fix this short term though.
Have a look into GPS tracking & remote starter disabling.

Much less stress when you KNOW where it is, and still
have control over it.

I hope I helped some.

QUESTION: Thank you for the prompt reply.
However,i don't know what a code emulator is. Can they start the car without a key?
Did not have a gps installed in the car.

Answer
The short answer is a code emulater
can match the ignition transponder code, to allow for
a any key to start it.

And yes it was a subtle
suggesttion that you consider a GPS tracking device with
starter disable to keep it from being stolen again.
