Auto Theft Prevention/Tek Guard Antitheft on 97 GMC Jimmy 4WD
Expert: INSTALLSUPPORT - 11/24/2008
QuestionQUESTION: I have a used 97 GMC Jimmy with a sticker that says it is equiped with Tek Guard anti theft with a now non-existant phone number. After 1,000 dollars worth of mechanical work in the last month my vehicle still keeps not starting by the fuel not getting to the engine. My workplace where it happens most often is loaded with remote controlled and magnetic equipment. i can prove I own this vehicle and am not trying to steal it.Any help even contact for tek freguard would be appreciated.
ANSWER: Sorry, tek guard is gone now. A long time.
But it sounds like it's a passlock issue, not
an alarm issue.
Does the engine try to crank and never catches?
This is likely to be passlock.
If the starter simply makes NO ATTEMPT at all,
then it might be being held back by a starter kill relay.
From the explaination you gave me thow, leaning
towards a GM PASSLOCK 2 issue.
Please verify.

QUESTION: The starter cranks but doesn't catch and no fuel gets through. the vehicle did not have when we purchased it used a gadget for starting the engine outside the car. we also had the ignition key replaced by a locksmith when it was lost. We have a copy of the original door key and following instructions given in another post got it to start last night.I am walking on eggshells wondering when it might happen again .Best recourse consult dealer? Am open to suggestions.
AnswerYes ma'am. If all that is the case here,
my gut says it's a passlock issue. I would visit the
service dept. at a car dealer AFTER I have a car
alarm technician REMOVE that device you spoke of.
If you don't, and take it to the dealer, THAT device
will become the ONLY reason it's malfunctioning, or
caused all the trouble, even thow it probably isn't.
Just be leary of high priced fixes here. Seams to
me that if the installer you find, removess the bypass
that was installed, and repairs the wiring, you MIGHT
get lucky. If not, you'll be ready to have GM
evaluate it.
Good luck.
