Question
QUESTION: Hi.  I am trying to locate the Valet Switch in my 1998 Ford Expedition.  I saw on your website that it is under the dash area.  Can you tell me specifically where?
I got my husband involved as well.  We cannot find it anywhere.  Is it right below the ignition, is it under the fuse box.  If you could provide specific directions I would appreciate it, as my transmitter has died and now my engine won't start.  I really don't have the currency right now to pay to a tow truck to get it to the deal and then approx. $90 for him to just look at it and then more $$$ for him to fix it when there is just a switch I can turn off and on.  Thanks.  I greatly appreciate this.

ANSWER: Please be more descriptive if possible.

"GOING OFF?"

I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.

Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
(doubtfull since none of the notes show this
car as having a factory alarm system)=FACTORY

Or,

is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?= AFTER MARKET

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take.

QUESTION: Thank you for your prompt reply.  With your descriptions, my vehicle is After Market.

ANSWER: Ok, should be fairly easy. To try to disarm it,
look under the dash area for a button or,
a toggle switch. When you locate it, turn on the
ignition key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.=VALET/OVERIDE

This stops the alarm except for the keyless
entry if installed. Once in Valet mode,
it will allow the car to start and operate
like there was no alarm at all.

That should solve the troubles for now.
Repeat the steps to toggle back to valet when needed.

Let me know what you discover.

QUESTION: That's the part we are actually stuck on.
'Look under the dash area'
Where specifically should it be?  We couldn't find any kind of button or switch and we really did search for an hour.  Is it near the fuse box, a little under the ignition, over by the gas pedal.  Specific directions if possible, would really help.  Thanks again. =O)

Answer
It all depends on the installer of the after market system.

Normally it's in the left leg area under the dash.
There is no rule other then hide it in an out of the way
place only the driver would know. Normally left
of the leg, under the dash.

If not installed, then you will need to either take it
to an installer or consider removing it.
