Auto Theft Prevention/Remote Car Starter

Question
Hi there - I asked you this question a few weeks ago:
"Just got a remote car starter as a Xmas present - this morning used it for the first time.  Was very annoyed when my horn started honking as soon as the car started.  Wouldn't stop until I stopped the car.  Same problem again as soon as I was more than 10 feet away from the car and pressed the remote car starter button/started the car.  Did the shop that installed it do something wrong? I have a 2007 Honda Fit with Keyless entry.  Thanks!"

The reason I'm writing back, is that the installer just charged us $50 to fix this problem, saying that there was something "extra" he needed to install to get it to work right.  Is this just a way to get more $ for something they should have done to begin with???
Thanks!

Answer
Unlikely. If he installed it right the first time,
the second time would not be needed. Sounds more
like he had to go back in, found he had to do a bit
more labor to acheive his goal, and that reflected in
the cost. Not exactly a lie, since he did say
"there was something "extra" he needed to install
to get it to work right." Well duh!

To me this means he found the remote starter's (-)
ground output when running wire, located the factory
alarm disarm wire and attached it. This should
have been done at first installation. He charged you
for his time to correct his own work.

But I have no proof, and neither do you.

Not a lie, but not a totally ethical statement either.

My suggestion is if it works now without a hitch,
be happy, don't refer him in the future.
His labor costs are suspect.

Hope this helped some.

A.
