Good Evening to you both 1st i would like to say something here i work on these cars all the time so Rob im sorry to say but you are wrong. travis the only answer to your question is that once the battery is disconnected in that cts your done tapping in to the wires is not a big issue as long as the battery is still connected i have done major over hauls on the 03 cts's in my shop and found all them to be the same thing (VTD)VEHCILE THEFT DETERRENT IN OTHER WORDS ANTI THEFT DEVICE. in order to rest set this problem you must have a multi scan tool $900 cdn dollars i own 3 of them and im always working on these cars GM here in my city are sending me there custormers with the 2003 cts to get there cars going aswell so all you gotta do is take the car back to gm tell them your issue they will fix it and charge your anywhere from 450 to 1500 next time dont disconnect the battery and also make sure your back window does not get broken or you will be screwed again.

The answer provided by rob is no more than a useless personal comment.  one must understand the theft deterrent system in the car.  disconnecting the battery triggered a low voltage condition which damaged the ecu; this  occurs more commonly than you'd think in these cadillacs.  there are things you must check.  the ecm and tcm fuses, notice if the traction control light and the security light remain on when you attempt to start the car.  if car starts but security light is on, there is an error in the system that most cases require dealer reprogramming.

check the battery state,  the cadillac ecm won't function properly if the voltage has dropped below 12v for sustained time.  which traps the key in the igntion, and keeps the shift lock release module from activating to allow you to shift out of park.
