Question
I was at a laquinta motel in shreveport yesterday when the alarm on a 97 linc towncar went off twice.  The owner reset it and 15 minutes later the car was engulfed in flames from the engine compartment.  Could the alarm malfunction cause it or was it probably something else that cause the alarm to sound?

Answer
Not to my knowledge. Nothing he could have done with a
car alarm device would cause that.
Now if it's a remote starter/car alarm, and the
turning on of the remote starter would run
the fuel pump, you would have to have something completely
wrong with the starter, that it would not kick over,
freezes over the circuitry so the
the fuel is being sprayed over the engine, and might
ignite. But that's a HUGE stretch. VERY hard to pin
the 2 together now, after the fact, but highly unlikely.

If it's me, and I was inspecting it, I would look
at the fuel injection system to start. But the
local insurance investigator will have his hands full
trying to prove the alarm was the cause.

Just my first take on the subject.
