Question
i have a 2000 buick lasabre the car cranks but wont catch someone read on the code reader computer it came up with anti-theft fuel detterent. I spoke to a diffrent mechanic he said this reading is in error it could be a diffrant problem. I checked the module and the coil packs someone said it might be the crank sensor. I want to know if from the symtoms it can be somthing else or it is the anti-theft system and what i should do to fix it.

Answer
Tough one, but it's likely the PASSKEY III in the ignition
is either bad or going bad. It could be breached if another key
was tried without the proper transponder pellet showing.

This is not good. I'd start at GM service to reset it.
Mechanics are not going to have the GM code writer.

If that does not work, the bypass used to remote start
this car can be modified to render the PASSKEY III
inert. This kit runs 89.95 and a good technicain
should be the one that does it.

Some bypasses are easier than others, but yours
falls in the difficult range.
