QUESTION: I have a 2000 Malibu and the car alarm will not shut off.  How can I deactivate it? The keyless entry does not work.  I took it to a car alarm place and they did not know how to deactivate it.  I also called the local dealer and they did not have an idea of what to do.

QUESTION: I was looking for something that I could do, rather than something to purchase that could also malfunction.  I just want to stop the alarm completely.  A post for a 2001 Malibu mentioned a toggle switch under the dashboard that could be used to deactivate the alarm.  I see a switch under my dashboard and wondered if it had the same functionality?

Answer
Only if this car has an after market system.
No toggle or push button under the dash.

Your issue is likely to be the waring out passlock II
sensor in the ignition switch. 95% sure it is.

But go through the motions to find out.
Start with seeing if this does indeed have
an after market alarm.

after market override:

Make sure you do the procedure correctly.

PUT IGNITION KEY IN IGNITION,
KEY ON TO JUST BEFORE CRANKING THE ENGINE.
PRESS IN AND HOLD VALET SWITCH
UNTIL YOU GET A RESPONSE
FROM THE ALARM.

KEY OFF.

This should toggle the alarm in and out of
valet/override.

If toggle type switch.
KEY ON, FLIP SWITCH, KEY OFF,
START THE CAR.
