I HAVE AN 1994 CADILLAC SEVILLE SLS AND ITS HAVING A PROBLEM STARTING. MY LIGHTS AND WINDOWS ARE COMING ON EXCEPT MY STEREO. WHATS MY PROBLEM?

Hello,

I don't understand the question and without being at the car, I don't understand how the stereo would relate with the no start problem.
you say your lights come on, but from your discription, I will assume the engine does not crank.

There is no absolute answer without diagnosing the problem without thorough testing, otherwise you are replacing parts that did not need replacement.

The very first thing you must test is the starter. If there is power going to the starter when
someone is turning the ignition lock, that tells you right there the starter is junk.

All you need is a 12 volt test light applied to the starter solinoid, while some one tries to crank the engine.
If you have no power to the starter solenoid, you need to look elsewhere at the battery connections.

If that is good, you need go to the steering column. Try tilting the column up and down, try running the transmission through the gears and try starting in nuetral and then park. What you are trying to do is see if you can put the broken wires back together if they are brokem for Cadillac's junk anti-theft system. If the engine starts by playing with the column, you will need to get the VATS anti- theft system bypassed because it is much cheaper to do that instead of having an over-priced ignition lock assy that will just fail again if that is your problem.

If the engine still won't crank you will need an Ohm meter. The bottom dash panel which has to be unscrewed must be taken off, to the left of the steering column under the dash, you will find a connector with all the wiring from the steering column plugged in. At the end of the connector you will see two very thin wires with white insulation. You will insert one lead into one of those wires from the meter. The other lead will go inside the lock cyliinder and see if you have continuity. If not try the other connector in the lock. If you have continuity, switch wires under dash with your lead. If the anti theft is your problem, one or both these tests will show no continuity and that is when you need the car taken to an alarm store for bypass-Cadillac won't do it and will hit you $500 for a
new lock cylinder that will just be doomed again.

Warning!!!!  If this is the problem and it needs bypassed--have a hidden starter kill switch installed. Old cars are stolen more than new cars and if you have theft insurance and your car is stolen, your claim will be denied!! Two reasons- first it is equipped from the factory with a factory anti theft. Secondly, the insurance company and their experts are too inept to realize any vehicle can be stolen.
