Question
Ok.......
Someone just broke into my car and stole my CD's, but I'm so happy that's all they took. It made me think they could have stole my whole car!!! Unfortunately, my alarm system doesn't work, so the only thing I can do right now is lock my steering wheel. Would a thief still be able to steal my car? Are there any inexpensive solutions?

Steering wheel locking bars are more trouble than they are worth. Thief cuts steering wheel in second to remove device. In fact, this is commonly done as a challenge factor.
This was one of the more larger rip offs to the consumer. Once the steering when is cut, you now need a steering wheel.
You ask me if a thief would still be able to steal the car? Absolutely!!!
This crap has never worked on only to give a false sense of security to the owner.
You ask for an inexpensive solution. My answer then is why bother?
You could go to an alarm store and have a HIDDEN ignition kill switch installed. Will not stop a thief, but will slow him down.
No matter what you do, you are buying time and you will not stop the theft of the car. There are products out there that will tell you that their product will prevent theft. Such statement is not only a misrepresentation, but a downright lie!! In fact, most makers of such products don't have a clue as to how cars are stolen. Some of these goofs think hotwiring is still an amicable means of theft, even though 1969 was the last year it was used successfully.
I cannot tell you what was on that thief's mind that stole your CDs. You cannot leave them out in the open or you are saying "take me."
See if you can get a hidden starter kill installed. If mounted under the dash, that is the first place the thief will look. Many of these very expensive alarm installs are done this way. All one has to do is get the ignition in the ON position (I am not referring to only the ignition lock position) and reach under the dash and flip[ the valet switch that shuts the alarm off. This is the end of all features to the fancy expensive alarm.
Installers don't know how cars are stolen, so how can their installs be any good? They are not!!!
Don't listen to the information put out by cops if you are just concerned about the car. Don't park under a light. It gives the thief light to work with.
You do compromise your personal security assuming that if someone saw you getting mugged, they would assist you and maybe a cop would see this happen (fat chance).
In the state of Texas, I am not concerned about being mugged because I can carry and I would not think twice defending myself.
