Question
QUESTION: Hello Rob,

I have a question and at the same time a big problem.
I have a Ford expedition 5.4 V8 eddie bauer 1998.
I had one key with a chip but this one cracked and the chip in the key is broken and wont deactivate the PATS.
I live at Curacao and the dealer can only handle ford's from 2003 and younger.
Is there anyway to overrule the PATS sop that it is possible to start the car with the keys i have without a chip??

Hope you van help, i have a big problem at the moment.
I already disassembled the steering columm and tried to shortcut the wires there, but no succes.

regards

Alex

ANSWER: Hello,

I will help you and I don't seem to find the year of your vehicle on your question. There are going to be some minor variations after the 2001 model year, but not a big deal. These instructions are for 1998-2001 and after that I will relay the minor differences.

What you are bypassing the is the PCM Power Control Module relay.

Ford engineers claimed this piece of poop was "unstealable", but then of course the Ford engineers with college were so much smarter than me! Yeah, right! I am a professional car thief that has never been charged! They also said in advertisement the system cannot be hotwired and yet that is exactly what I did on my first successful test bypassing PATS.

I had a case in which my client was up against Ford in this matter. In spite of the engineer that designed this system (which I will not name), what a bonehead (David T.) that obfuscated everything in court to save his butt, not only did I defeat 1998-2003, but I did something just in case. I gave my process to locksmiths that have no clue as to how this system works. Even these people used my defeat process and they recorded it on video! In fact, these experts use my process in one form or the other to perform all of their investigations on stolen cars even to this exact day!. Do they give me credit? Of course not, but you need to understand that there are some in the insurance industry that I call bottom feeders.
Now basically you are screwed in a country that can't help you. In essence, your SUV is too old, so you must replace with new. I am not about to let that happen to you.

Please let me go on and I have my reasons that I need to do this. I will clarify and get you set up. You will see my answers on this site may appear to ramble, but the truth of the matter is I have reason for everything I do.

I have had a great time helping people on this site and others.

If Ford truly made an "Unstealable" vehicle, my dad (Ken Painter-ham operator 1924-2008)and me would never had been able to read a Ford schematic and found the PATS weak point exactly as a thief would do.

If you open the hood, on the driver's side, you will find a relay box. There are a number of relays. The relay you want is the only one with a little black diode. Ford was nice enough if you were to back feed the circuit, it wouldn't burn up! (Putzzes) Remove the relay where the little black diode is located, its 4 or 5 on the box. (don't remember anymore) but I have identified the location with the diode.

Remove the plastic cover from the relay with a screwdriver. You will see a set of contact points with the cover off. Take tape, a rubber band or something to wrap around to hold these contacts closed. Put the cover back on the relay. Reinstall. System is now bypassed! The only collateral damage is that the security light on the dash will flash rapidly. Throw a piece of electrical tape over the lens in front of the security light.

For any of you out there that feel there is a real anti-theft system, there is no such thing! I (just like professional thieves) can bypass any vehicle security system made!

Range Rover, BMW and Mercedes owners have a real false sense of security and yet we at least most of us (professional car thieves) are not college-educated engineers. One of these days, all those experts will start thinking outside the box like we do. We are not the dummy amateurs that they show attempting to steal a Yugo. Cops like to think that thieves are stupid. What is that number of non-recovered thefts a year? Who is stupid?

Detractors will say I brag or boast. No, I tell it how it is and I do know what I am talking about unlike many of the insurance company forensic locksmith experts that would not know a stolen car if they were sitting it!

Where I have a problem in the US and the court system, these goofball expert forensic locksmith expert locksmith experts are actually believed when they state a certain type of car is impossible to steal like yours. Without my intervention, those accused of stealing their own cars are screwed! There are many that use the title "forensic" leading the court to believe in order to reach their conclusion that they used the scientific process. They used b.s. and because they were too stupid to know how a car was stolen, the insured pays and pays innocent or not. Our court civil standards are so flimsy, these experts continue to spill their crap!

I walk the walk, I talk the talk!

Good luck!

If your SUV is newer than 2001, contact me, and I will walk you through it. Otherwise, your good to go a number of years!

Rob

QUESTION: First of all, thank you for your response.

The car is fabricated in 1998, but on the PATS module in the steering column is a sticker what says 1 aug 1997.
I did what you told me to do, de relay next to the diode on the driverside in the enginecompartment isn't the PCU power relay, its a small one for what i believe hi/lo washers/wiper speed.
I have piece a piece of  a ty-rap between the contacst and it wouldn't start
I took apart the lock and damaged the contacts in the ring around the keycilinder. But if I can overrijde the system that wouldn't be so bad goes is bypasses the PATS right?

Answer
Hi,

The system has to be functional before you do the bypass because the computer is reading there is another problem and that being it can't read a key because you broke the transceiver that is the antenna that sends the signal to the computer that reads the key an enables the engine to start.

In your situation, you need to replace the broken transceiver which should be the same on all the 1998-2003 Expeditions, Navigators, F-150, Ranger and Explorer.

a new transceiver is about $75 US.

Now, you say your key is cracked. How did this happen? The chip inside is pretty difficult to break, even if it gets run over by a car.

Once you change the black plastic transceiver, you then can rotate the ignition lock cylinder actuator (I assume you knocked the lock out) with a screwdriver to on, so the system can see there is no problem with the system. At this time, the bypass should work.

Now once bypassed, your truck is insecure and anyone can drive it off with the column damage. If you did knock the lock out, the column is junk.

You say the key is cracked, but I don't understand why you didn't rotate the ignition lock with the key.

The diode is not next to the relay but directly in front of the relay and it is not a small relay and is the standard bocshe and the only variable could be the country of origin. The design I refer to is the North continent design, which is now something I did not consider. I also did not ask left hand or right hand drive.

Can you send me a picture of the relay panel under the hood to robo14@aol.com? While you are at it, send me a picture of this cracked key too.
