Auto Theft Prevention/aftermarket immobiliser
Expert: INSTALLSUPPORT - 10/10/2011
QuestionMy son has a 1997 Pontiac sunfire convertible with an aftermarket immobiliser - he is 18 years old. He is constantly having a problem starting the car. He puts the key in the ignition and turns it and the car won't start - he waits about 15 mins and trys it again and the car then will start. He wants to get rid of the immobiliser all together. How would be go about finding someone who could eliminate this system? If a locksmith changed the key/ignition would that solve the problem?
This car also has a factory installed security system as well as the immobiliser.
How do we get rid of this immobiliser or where do we take the car to have it removed?
Thanks!
AnswerI understand this better than most and do have
a solution to his trouble. The issue is PASSLOCK 1.
It's the faulty designed, fuel rail cut off circuit in
the ignition switch. Over time, it wares out and starts
acting this way. You need to bypass it.
I know it's very annoying for owners of GM vehicles,
having to constantly deal with this issue. :>(
So let's fix that.
Not too hard to do if your son has ever done Car stereo
or, Car alarm work. If not,
(don't be proud! Alot of people won't do this work),
Then locate someone who does car alarms and remote start
work as this is right up they're alley!)
Either way, the PLJX bypass kit is what you need here
for remote starter applications or in your case,
to terminate your PASSLOCK 1 system for good.
The only thing you need for this to work is:
THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE MUST BE
ABLE TO START AND RUN FOR AT LEAST
1 MINUTE TO ALLOW FOR THE PLJX MODULE
TO BE PROGRAMMED!
However, if this is NOT your situation,
and the engine cranks & tries but does NOT turn
over, then you would also need 2 relays
and sockets, plus the proper resistor to get it
to crank and start and keep running,
THEN you would install the self learning PLJX module
to KEEP PASSLOCK from ever engaging again.
So to sum it up, this will help as long
as he can follow directions and can have this
interfaced correctly to solve the "NO START" issue.
*We suggest taking it to a local car alarm
remote starter/stereo installer to have this
done as GM service WILL NOT do it.
They're interest is in FIXING the PASSLOCK
issue, not circumventing, getting around or,
bypassing it for you. There's no money in
that for them!
& that's really all there is to it.
Once purchased, I will forward all working
notes for your vehicle to study prior to installation,
and it will be shipped within 24 hours by 3 day
priority mail.
When ready, click or copy, cut n paste / type in
the link below that best fits your situation:
If the vehicle's engine tries to crank, but does NOT engage/
turn over. You will need both the bypass kit, and
the relay application to get it started and bypassed
for good. This option is 74.95 + s&h

HOWEVER...
If your vehicle's engine can start, even after waiting 10 minutes
before it will crank over on it's own, you need the PLJX bypass kit
by itself. 64.95.

And that's all there is to ordeing it.
