Question
QUESTION: I want to bypass the ignition system with a key that has no chip. Is  this possible? A new key cost $150 with a limit of making new keys. i want the freedom of not worrying about losing the key with a computer chip.

ANSWER: Hello,

First off, you do not want to bypass. Truck gets stolen theft claim will be denied! I guaranty this will happen. Then you have to retain me and a lawyer to sue. Then depending on your state(Texas +Michigan and other states) you will wait 3 years and maybe get paid for the truck and legal fees. No punitive damages, damage to you reputation, investigators that told your neighbors and friends that you are a suspect in a fraud investigation.

Do you really want that because you bypassed Ford's anti theft system?  It's bad enough if the truck gets stolen with the active pats.

By the way, every friggen manufacturer has lied (used to be softer and say misreprsent) and that such systems are not anti theft. These systems as you represent are a pain for the owners.  These systems do not stop theft!!
These systems will not stop theft.

If you are paying that much for a key, they are stealing from you! Ford does not make locks and keys. Strattec from Milwaukee or Huff. These locks and kays are exactly the same parts your local locksmith has.

For mor than half the price a locksmith can set you up.

Your vehicle should be capable of having 8 keys programmed.

Be very careful where you put keys for this truck. I already told you why you don't want this truck stolen.

QUESTION: Thank you for your concerns but I really would like to know if the security system can be bypassed. Thank you...

Answer
OK,

Now you give me a 1 rating and if you reviewed all the dialogue I had sent you, as I was writing I thought about how I could successfully address your issue on how to bypass your PATS, offered  not to charge you for the instructions, if you were to hold me harmless.

My last response to your problem as to how you wanted to bypass the system so you could have regular keys made for the van. What more do you want from me? What you want me to travel on my own dime to where the vehicle is located and bypass your PATS for free?

How dare you give me this rating!

I VOLUNTEER my knowledge to assist people with their problems they have with their vehicles. I do not get compensated and most people are very happy with the information I had given them and in many cases have saved them money and lots of trouble.

Occasionally, there is that person no matter what answer I give them is not good enough!
I feel insureds should be aware of the liability they have just owning a vehicle with a factory-installed anti-theft system. A majority of insureds don't realize how much their life can be turned upside down if the vehicle is stolen. Then couple the problem with bypassing this system, there are even more underlying issues.
Excuse me if I give this caveat and potential consequences to your actions of bypassing your PATS because of whatever goofy reasons of the cost of additional key replacement.

Your request is not normal. In fact, in the 9 years I have been answering questions, yours is the first I have seen for the reason given.

I attempt to be a problem solver for the questioners. Sometimes my answers are not understood on the anti-theft systems, not always because I am not clear, but because sometimes the questioner cannot grasp the concept or I am not giving the exact answer they want to here.

Sometimes I am thinking deeper into the problem while I write and don't have the time to remove the original answer. Such was the case in your situation. As I was writing telling you I did not think the bypass could be done originally and as writing figured out how to suit your needs, and offered to give you a solution to your problem at no cost, and you give me a 1 rating!

You sir, should be ashamed of yourself. Obviously, I will do nothing further to correspond with you. Good luck on getting someone to bypass your system and I guess you will have to pay your $150 per key.
