Auto Theft Prevention/ford pat system
Expert: INSTALLSUPPORT - 5/5/2011
QuestionQUESTION: Hello, from reading your previous answers it looks like I will need a KX04 PK ford bypass module, as my 2000 F-150 6 cylinder all of a sudden is giving me problems with starting (anti theft light blinking rapidly - no start). Engine quit running while driving and anti theft light again blinking rapidly. Starts sometimes and runs like a champ until PAT kicks in. Does the KX04 module come with install instructions or will I have to have a tech install it? I have done a lot of engine tuning, rebuilding etc and basic wiring / soldering and if its not to complicated I could manage. Thanks, Steve
ANSWER: I think you can do the job but it the PKFM updated XK04 for this one I think.
The transponder reader in the ignition is not actually seeing
the transponder code for some reason and shuts you down.
Trickey because this could be a deeper issue, but it does
sound like the code is not being transmitted using the
current ignition keys. I would also strongly consider
at least a basic remote starter to be able to control
the PATS remotely if the key in the ignition fails you
again. But it's only a jurry rig at best. Still, in theory
and application, it should work. ;>)
Let me know if I can put something together for you on this.
Rob.

QUESTION: Hello Rob, thanks for your reply. Do the key chips ever expire or malfunction? Both keys are the original ford keys that came with the vehicle and the problem happens with both keys. If you have the parts I would need how much are they going for? Thanks for your help, Steve
AnswerYou must have missed the last comment:
"No they keep the frequency with or without power.
They transmit through proximity. Transponder is short
for transmitter and responder. So the only "powered"
part of this is the reader around the ignition
switch. This one sounds as if yours are not always
"talking" to each other.
By adding a remote starter and bypass kit to this
would address the problem before the key switch
on those days that the ignition gives you trouble.
It may even correct the issue all together if you
remote start it first, then key in and on to
shut down the remote starter cycle and drive along.
But no guaranty. It is a worn sensor after 12 years
of use, but I think dooable.
I can put you into a nice basic remote start system
with keyless entry and the PKFM bypass kit for 149.95
If this is something you'd like, copy cut n paste
