Question
QUESTION: Hi, Please help me . I have a 1998 cavalier 2.2 manual trans.
I have spent countless hours working on this car over a month now.
The car will start for 2-3 seconds then dies. The security light stays lit does not ever flash, I have tried the 10 min on off 3 times relearn and does not work. I purchased a access comm. 791 bypass module and alarm code 5051 remote starter which I hoped would solve the problem however still not working. I am so confused because I have seen about 50 different ways to install. I cant find any wire diagrams connecting the 2 to the car. Also the words to describe wires I don`t understand. What is the negative activation wire  what is the status wire where do I find the tach wire and how do I no if I need it.
How can I get a resistor value when the car wont start.
Do I need to get relays if so where can I get a diagram showing how to wire them.
At this time the remote starter will turn over the engine but still dies after 2-3 seconds I think it is something wrong in the wiring but not sure. Will this even work if the light never blinks if not is there a way to get the light to flash so I can do the relearn. Is there any sites or info you can please share with me to get this car running. I cant afford to take to anyone to fix it and I am unemployed but have a new job on monday but only if I have the car. Please help
Thank You,
  Rob in Phoenix, AZ

ANSWER: Hello Rob,

Your remote start kit with bypass will not work unless you have this crappy system working in the first place which requires a diagnoses with a tech II scanner. You then need to replace the bad part so the system even functions. You can't bypass this system if not working!!!

If you can return the alarm/remote start and module because it does not apply or even help your situation.

The R code is built into the ignition lock housing, but that is not your problem. y guess is a bad computer and no matter what you do to bypass is just going to make you pull your hair out!

Once you have diagnosed and service centers have these scanners too, so you are not stuck sending the car to a dealer, you can repair the problem and then your set. If you want to bypass that factory junk afterward, its simple and I will tell you, but you need to get the car running first.

Good luck!!!

QUESTION: I understand what you are saying and I am glad I read your reply because I was just about to go "mess" with the car but now I wont. Would a computer from a junk yard work? Where exactly is the computer anyway? Are there any other components in the passlock that also or could be to blame? If I replace the computer myself , Does the system still need to have the Tech scanner done to make it work? I replaced the key cylinder and housing, new starter, the lights on dash stay lit except the abs and chk engine lights and when you turn the key from off to any position the temp gauge needle moves down and when you turn off and take the key out the temp gauge goes up a very small amount but seems odd. Thank you so much for your help I really need to get this car running so I can get this job on Monday. Rob

Answer
Give me a call tonight at 866-490-1673. If I don't answer I will call right back. We are hunting right now. Very concerned about my dogs because we have 3 hungry bobcats out here in the day time.
If the neighbor gets them, its just a 22. If I get them they will have lots of holes because I am using a 22 as well, but much more powerful a 556 with my AR 15.

It really poses a problem for her chickens and my dogs and cats, so this is what we are doing and I will make time to attempt to get you on the road so you can go to work.

As of this writing, neighbor just got one, and there is more than three and a black panther. Who says life is not exciting on an East Texas ranch?
