Auto Theft Prevention/Auto theft

QUESTION: I have a 1999 Ford Ranger and I want to disable the passive system because I don't want to be away from home and have the Fob quit working and I haven't the money to spend on those repairs. Can you walk me through how to do it? A mechanic wants $70.00 dollars but I'm on disability and no extra money! Much appreciated!!

ANSWER:  Hello

First your key fob is most likely only a keyless entry that locks and unlocks the door and has a panic feature. You state you want to disable the passive system which in reality the key fob is not passive but active. The key fob is a completely separate system from PATS. PATS employs a computer chip in the ignition key. The FOB is an active system which requires you to press a button on the fob to lock and unlock the doors. It is very rare to see the $800 option of a factory alarm on these.
Passive Anti Theft System (PATS) means nothing is required by the driver to set the system. An Active requires you do something like push a button. Passive means that no human intervention is required like the separate Ford pats ignition based so called anti theft system. I was the first other than a thieves to bypass this system in 10/10/2000. This involved a Los Angeles case Greines v Ford.
To everyone including the goofs at Ford, engineers and locksmiths the system made the vehicle virtually unstealable. I was the expert for Greines. I studied the schematics and came up with a theory. I applied the theory on video and I defeated this garbage with one wire. I supplied the process to my peers who used my process on numerous trucks and SUVs and they concurred my defeat process worked every time.

However this bypass was not meant for your application because this was to prove Ford misled the public as for making their vehicles unstealable. There is a collateral effect. The theft light will flash rapidly with engine running.

$70 is too much money by your mechanic. A duplicate key can be cloned and cut for much less by a locksmith or Ace hardware store.

To steal this truck it takes 20 seconds to break the brittle magnesium steering column with a screwdriver and a hammer and the ignition lock will fall to the floor. If bypassed a thief has the truck.
Do not be naive and think your truck is too old to steal. Old vehicles are stolen all the time. You say you are on disability and money is short. What will you do if bypassed and a teenager steals it?

The bypass was what a professional thief would do in the day. Now you are dealing with kids that learn in jail how to pop columns.

Your mechanic cannot bypass the ignition based pats without the theft light flashing. As I said I am the guy that was the first to ever do this.

Just get a duplicate key. If you get a cloned key, it is already programmed to the key you have.

Bypassing could put you in a world of hurt if stolen because now you would have to replace the vehicle.

Good Luck

QUESTION: I do have a key with a chip in it and I think the truck battery is also diabled until I click the fob. The fob does not control my door locks, I have to open them with the key and I'll take my chances that my truck isn't stolen! Now what?

I have no idea what yu have there and you may not even have a factory key fob. You need to take a picture of the FOB and send it.It sounds like an after market starter interrupt. It does not kill the battery and only the starter. This IS NOT part of the Ford PATS.

What you are requesting to be bypassed is Apples to Oranges. If you FOB does not function, this does not effect the PATS. Two different systems here!

Send me a photo and maybe I can help you with your answer.
