Auto Theft Prevention/Car Door Electronic Swipe Card.



Can it increase more security to the automobile by adding a electronic swipe card in the front door of the car similar to a ATM Card in a ATM Machine that unless and until the Pin Number - Password is not entered properly, the Car Door will not get opened.

The Electronic Swipe Card will be provided by the Car Manufacturer for every customer.

Electronic Display unit - Battery operated will be fixed on the Car Front Door along with the push buttons for entering the password code. The Electronic card
will be swiped by the Driver. If and only if the Password code is entered properly, then The Front Car Door will open.

Do you feel Car Thefts can be avoided by implementing Electronic Panel Display Unit ?.

Thanks for the question. However, it is my opinion based omn34 years in auto theft that such a device may be a cool idea, the truth of the matter is that there is absolutely no security to prevent forced entry made.
I remember a guy that removed the handles and locks from his vehicle to have them opened remotely. He installed smash proof tinting. Secure right? Nope! Entered the vehicle in less than 10 seconds with a slim jim. 15 seconds using an air wedge!
I have not even addressed EMI and electronic security issues.
There is not a vehicle designed to prevent forced entry other than the BMW dead locks and a couple other foreign cars, but there is always a way around all of this. The other problem is constant security up grades are required. The manufacturers of vehicles still use systems designed in 1997 in 2014 and scratch their heads as to how they are defeated.
I am a professional car thief that only illustrates theft for the courts. I have the disadvantage of not doing it 24/7, however if nothing is made that I can't defeat, then there is a real issue.
I think like a thief, not as an engineer that lives in the world of theory.
Ask Ford in the Los Angeles case Greines v Ford. Ford advertised their anti theft system made the vehicle virtually "unstealable." It was also stated that it could not be hot wired. I defeated their junk with hot wiring using one wire!
As for your thoughts, as I said, it sounds interesting, but you need to consider our rust belt and road salt getting into the reader or out west or other countries where sand and dust is an issue. And even though this is similar technology to BMW and MB as well as many others Smart key technology without the swipe, I can be in and driving off with one of those equipped vehicles with my own smart key in 60 seconds. The key programmer from China cost me $300.00.

The password will be strong 8-14 digit, alphanumeric, special keys combination.

The same can be extended for starting the car. i.e. Inside the car. A Electronic panel with Swipe card. Unless and Until password is not inserted properly by the Driver after swapping the card, even if one tries to start the car keys, the car will not start.

This can be extended to Buses, Lorries, Tempos, Trucks i.e. Heavy Vehicles.

This will increase security against car thefts ?.

I Feel security will be enhanced on the Automobile against thefts.

1. One while opening the car door, a strong password has to be entered.
2. One while starting the car, a strong password has to be entered.

Also Two different electronic swipe cards are required, one for opening the car door and other for starting the car.

Bsed on my experience in auto theft since 1980 in he US and Canada, it is my opinion that this item may be more than anyone wants to deal with. Currently Ford and other manufacturers already use door key pads for entry into the vehicle. Been that way for over 10 years.
People in the US in my opinion are too lazy to use such a device. Convenience trumps security.
A for the entry of the vehicle, there are many surreptitious ways to enter a vehicle without the use of an electronic code, a key are numerous.
As for trying it in for starting the engine, this just creates additional problems for the owner when the engine does not start. Left at the mercy of the dealer to diagnose and repair transponder key problems.
The average time from the drawing board to the assembly line is 3 years making anything installed for security on a new vehicle obsolete.
I am not criticizing your innovation, but you did ask my opinion based on my extensive training, background and experience on auto theft.
No matter what electronic codes you use, electronic security can be hacked easily using EMI Electro Magnetic Interference A/K/A RF (Radio Frequency). This is the problem Homeland Security is extremely in fear of.
I deal with many irate owners with transponder issues in which their vehicles will not start for something as simple as a dead battery. It may cost them with towing up to $500.00 to get the vehicle running again!
