Subject: 99 jeep security key program problems
Question
ok this may get kinda long i have a 1999 jeep grand cherokee laredo v8. i just purchased it about 3 weeks ago from a small private dealer, and no clue to as its history, i wanted to install a older remote start system i took it to ziebart were he told me due to the secutiry chip inside the key he would need two keys to program the starter so i took my vehicle to the local jeep dealer, purchased a 50 key they attempted to program like 8 times, the the tech. came to me and said he could not program the key, he would start the process and then midway though (it was like my car was sending some kind of short) and comletey resetting his computer programmer thing and he said he knows for a fact that his computer works correctly, as he had been using it earlier that day. so this means for me no extra key no remote starter. no good as it gets very cold here and i tend to loose keys any ideas to as what might be causing the problem and i have heard a little about the bypass mods. but am afraid if i do it wrong that i could end up frying my computer and worse off than i started. and then you can get some reg. aluminum keys
cut at the local hardware store and then you'll
have no more troubles. You need to talk to
the installer and have them do this for you
since they cost you money already, or go
to another technician to get this done right.
AnswerThese bypasses are designed for momentarilly
bypassing immobilizers in specific vehicles
when using remote starters.
Now,
If you ground the outout wire to the body of
the car once installed correctly, then result
is the Jeep system will not arm again until
ungrounded. It works that way.
This means the key you have there is going to be
put away until you sell the truck.
