QUESTION: I have a 2001 Silverado. It has the security light on the dash but not active (does not flash). I assume this means I do not have the anti theft. Is there any way I can put power to the light so it appears I have the alarm. Would the light even have the wires going to it.

ANSWER: Wrong assumption Rob.
   You have PASSLOCK II and a factory noise generating,
headlight flashing, deterrent alarm. I beleive
from your short startement here, that it's also about
to give you a problem and go into lock down.

Please look at www.passlock2.com to see what you
have there, and how to circumvent it before you
get royally stuck.

It's Best not to mess with the OEM security light.

QUESTION: I don't think the vehicle has PASSLOCK II. It does not have a remote or even power locks or other options.

ANSWER: ALL GM trucks from 1998 on have it.

QUESTION: I have the two original keys and I just had a copy made. The keys do not have a chip in them. I s this not how the PASSLOCK II works, through the chip in the key?

Yes. And it's most odd that yours does not have it.
I don't think I've ever seen any truck from GM
after 1998, without it.

According to all the databases I have here,
this truck SHOULD have it.
