Auto Theft Prevention/Code Alarm help
Expert: INSTALLSUPPORT - 12/10/2007
QuestionHi, I have a 1996 Toyota Camry LE with a "Code Alarm" keyless entry/alarm system on it. My problem is that the car only came with one entry/alarm remote so I purchased another remote on the internet, which came with programming instructions. The instructions say to find an led light and a programming button. The instructions are not clear as to if the LED light is part of the programming button, or completely separate. Well, I was able to find an led only(which has a broken wire) on the left side of the dash. And then down near the hood release I found a little threaded electrical component sticking through a piece of the plastic. There was no button, but when I pulled the little component through the plastic, it is connected to 2 wires. My guess is that it was/is the programming button that somehow lost the lock nut which was to hold it in place, and also the button must have broken off. So, I can't program the new remote until I can 'hold down the programming button'. I wrote to the 'Code Alarm" company for help with the wiring instructions, but they just wanted me to take it to a 'code alarm' installer for a repair. I'm thinking I just need to re-solder the led light on the dash, and then replace the broken programming button(if that's what it is) and then I should be able to program the new remote. The 'code alarm' remote that I do have has only 2 buttons on it and looks like it is several years old. I looked under the dash for any type of 'code-alarm' control box but could not find one. Can you give me your opinion on if the threaded component is the programming button, and if the led light I have found can be separate from the programming button? How do they wire code alarm keyless entry systems?
AnswerOn this one, the best thing here is
to go to my installers forum at
www.installsupport.com and see if
my resident technicians there can assist
with this project.
I unfortunately don't know the
system you are working with to advise
you properly on it's functions,
features or trouble shooting
information. Better to check with a tech
that might.
Good luck there.
