BUSINESS EXPERIENCE
Founder of the ?Forensic Institute of Auto Theft Analysis? (January 2002). This is the training school that will set the standards in determining the last operation of a reported stolen vehicle-burned or unburned. Much of my testing and procedures have been accepted as the guide for the forensic community.
1986 opened Auto Recovery Specialists Inc., providing exclusive repair of theft recovered and vandalized vehicles. The initial concept of the business was to return vehicles to their original shape before the theft, vandalism or fire. In 1987 bought the rights to the theft deterrent known as the ?Chicago Collar?.
Duties include complete component replacement: dash, stereo system, interior,
locks and coding, rebuilding steering columns, repairing and installing vehicle security system components (factory and after market), engine components, body repair, glass replacement, repair and service of air conditioning components, brake and suspension repair, and replacement, wiring harnesses etc. to return vehicle to pre-theft condition Complete reconstruction.

Defeated the ?unstealable? Ford Securilock transponder system for a court case 10/10/00. They said it could not be done!
Primary designer of a state of the art ?bait? car for a police department to catch car thieves.
Worked with The National Highway Safety Transportation Administration and
discovered a potential fire hazard on a vehicle and determined origin and cause of under hood fires on this type of vehicle.

Contacted by Sears and Edelman Marketing to be a national spokesman for an anti theft device for vehicles. (November 1999)
Invited to provide evaluation and consulting to steering column engineers at Daimler Chrysler Corporation in Auburn Hills, MI (10/19/99-10/22/99). The purpose of this project was to demonstrate how steering column locking mechanisms could be defeated without the use of a key and how to reinforce the columns against theft.
Court Qualified as an Auto Theft Expert and my videos of defeating columns were also accepted by a Cleveland, Ohio Court in October 1999 as a valid piece of evidence.

Question I have a 95 lumina ls with the pass-key-II security system,is this a good system? if not,what alarm system would you recommend?
Answer Well Tim, your question is relative. PASS KEY II is also known as VATS (Vehicle Anti-Theft System). It was originally designed by Allen Bradley and patented in 1981. There was a patent dispute and Allen Bradley and Stratecc ended up with the patent in 1995.
The concept was to disable the engine if the proper resistor chip embedded in the ignition key was not used when the ignition was put into the "start" position. Some people referred to this resistor as a computer chip.
The system was first introduced in 1986 in the Corvette and later applied to Camaros, Firebirds and other lines over the years.In the first couple years of use, this system did drop the number of stolen vehicles with this system. The trend changed after a couple of years though.
Some insurance companies and independent insurance investigators have sometimes heralded vehicles equipped with this system as “unstealable†.
The system is antiquated and does have inherent problems for the owner. It is still used in some 2000 GM models.
To give you an idea of how outdated it is: A computer is outdated the minute you purchase it. A car stereo model is obsolete after 3 months and after market security systems are commonly improved after 6 months.
The VATS has been around for 14 years with very few modifications and still works on the same concept!
A very common problem for the owner is that the engine will start only at times. Two thin wires running through the column that attach to the lock cylinder break cause this problem. The solution is to either have the over priced lock cylinder assembly replaced with keys or fix it the cheaper way and bypass the system all together. These bypass kits are available just about anywhere that sells electronic parts.
It is also stated by some that if this system fails and the column is defeated that the engine will not start and run. This is not always true.
It has also been stated that there is a long window of time to defeat one of these systems. I have proved for court that this too, is not always the case.
I would recommend having an after market system such as a Viper or a Prestige, professionally installed by a MECP Certified vehicle security store in your area. Look in your local yellow pages for one closest to you.
The features you will want are starter disable, two stage shock sensor, passive setting and code hopping at a minimum.
