Expert: INSTALLSUPPORT - 11/5/2007

Question
i was at the store one day and got in my car i put my key in the switch and when i turned it over the key went all the way back! i found out my lock cylinder broke my hubby took it out and now i have purchased a new cylinder. My question is i have a 1998 explorer and it has the anti theft system in it will i need to go to the dealer and have it programmed or can i just put the cylinder and disarm the theft device so i can atleast start my car? thanks!

Interesting.
  The securelock system is a black
reader bar theat goes next to the
cylinder. At this juncture, you could
probably install the new one, and then
terminate the PATS
(Ford's PASSIVE ANTI THEFT SYSTEM)
using a bypass modudle so you can
get rid of Ford's "better idea" all together.
This would mean you can use any tooled key for
the ignition to start the truck.

But I would then install a new alarm remote
start/keyless system to enhance the truck if
I planned to keep it at this point.

Your call though. If none of that matters to
you, please re assemble the switch as you found it
to keep the integrity of the Ford theft system &
start her up.
