Expert: INSTALLSUPPORT - 11/2/2007

Hello,

I have a 1998 Expedition.  My wife was driving it and it killed, then the left light began to flash.  It would not start.  I understood that a PATS failure could not cause the engine to stall, everything I have read says that after the engine is running for 1-second PATS cannot stall the engine?  I had it towed to the Ford dealer and they told me that all the modules were bad, some $1800.00 worth.  I told them to stop their work and I had it towed home.  I thought it was unlikely that all the modules would go, they theorized that it might have been struck by lightning.  I told them that it was running and there was no lightning!  To me it seemed that it might be a PCM issue.  I went to the salvage yard and bought a used PCM, plugged it in and it started right up.  I put everything back together and it seemed to start and run fine!  My wife drove it out of town for about 50 miles and the same situation happened again, the engine stalled and then the theft light came on.  I would appreciate any guidance as to where to look next.

I wish I had something to offer. But my expertise is
in circumventing the PATS for remote starting.
That's where it stops for me on the knowledge
of the workings of Fords Passive Anti Theft System.
From here, you need a Ford mechanic or systems
specialist to discuss this with.
