Question
QUESTION: I recently changed my battery of my chevy suburban '97.
Since then my alarm has not been functioning correctly.
The alarm goes off when I try to start the car. I tried my remote but it does nothing. What could be causing this?
The only way to get my car started is to disconnect the battery and half turn the ignition. Please help, I feel I my damage my electronics by constantly doing this. The alarm might be factory installed.

ANSWER: Ms. Belinda,
   Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
(doubtfull since none of the notes show this
car as having a factory alarm system)=FACTORY

Or,

is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?= AFTER MARKET

Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take.

QUESTION: I guess it would be aftermarket then. Either I need to disconnect the alarm or figure out what is making it turn on because it is driving us crazy. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!!

Gotcha, let's put it into valet/service mode,
and try to reset the alarm to default mode.

Look under the dash area for a button or, a toggle
switch. When you locate it, turn on the ignition
key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid.

At this point. the alarm would have reset.
If this had a starter kill relay installed,
it would now be opened, and the engine would
turn over when tried.

You would repeat these steps to go back to
user mode to see if this was corrected.
