Auto Theft Prevention/alarm system
Expert: INSTALLSUPPORT - 8/31/2007
QuestionQUESTION: I just purchased a 1995 Suburban with a Anaheim conversion package. The book says there should be a valet button, I think to disarm the anti-theft system, but I can't find it. There is a clear piece of plastic that is coming from the dash that appears to be broken off at the end. Under the dash is a push button and a small light, both just hanging freely. My problem - the anti-theft system automatically alarms itself 60 seconds after I close the door. So when I open any door afterwards, the alarm goes off. The vehicle starts and runs fine, I just have to always push the button on the keyless entry to disalarm the system before I open any door. There is no toggle switch to be found. I would like to turn the automatic alarm reset off, as I believe it is also draining my battery. How can I do that?
Thanks!
ANSWER: Look under the dash area for a button or, a toggle
switch. When you locate it, turn on the ignition
key, press and hold in the button (little
spring loaded micro button, red or black possibly)
until the alarm chirps 1 time. This should over ride
the system, and only the keyless entry part,
if installed, would still be operating.
The LED (light emiting diode) light in the dash
should also go on solid. This would valet or
overide and reset the alarm.
Look again under the dash area & try again.

QUESTION: I can't locate a toggle switch anywhere. The little black pushbutton is there, and I did what you suggested. The alarm would never chirp unless I held the button in for about 5 seconds, then it chirps 4 times. However, this does not over-ride, or disarm, the anti-theft system. I tried different combinations of things, to no avail. What else would you suggest?
Thanks again!
AnswerWell we know you do have a valet button.
The 4 chirps is telling you what's wrong.
The trouble is there is no guide to explain
what they mean. Without the manual, and
procedures, then removal is next unless
you can identify the system using the remotes
if available. Then you could back track
to the manufacturer to get the info needed.
If no joy, gotta pull the unit, and repair the
starter wire with the relay inline.
Up to you.
