Hi.  I purchased a 2001 SAAB 9-5 station wagon in December 2004.  The car gave me no problems for the first year.  Then, trouble set in. At least once a day, when I try to start the car, the engine won't crank.  The lights work, power windows work, the stereo works, etc...but, the engine won't start.  After between 5 and 30 minutes the car will then start (after trying to start it again and again)...I got a new key to try to remedy the problem--but, it still exists.  Could it be that a problem with the auto theft alarm is causing the car to intermittently start? This vehicle has the SAAB3 immobilizer anti-theft system
in the ignition and key.
It appears yous is begining to fail.
The car does not recognise the chip in the ignition
key at times and needs to be reset
or circumvented all together.

You can tow it to any SAAB vehicle dealer
to have the service department re code it.

Or, get the TBKIII - Universal Transponder Bypass w/relayed (+/-) Keysense  
TBKIII is a 3rd generation Universal Transponder Bypass Kit (Ignition Key Required),
designed to temporarily bypass most OEM transponder type ignition immobilizer systems when remote starting.
and or bypass it permananently. It runs 43.00 and will
require a technician to make it work right.

However this will solve your issue for good.
