Auto Theft Prevention/keyless entry remote system
Expert: INSTALLSUPPORT - 12/2/2007
QuestionQUESTION: I have a 1997 Ford Expedition, the remote entry seems to work only part of the time. I replaced the batteries in both remotes but it did not help. Since the problem occurs with both remotes, I though it could be in the receiver. I was looking for the receiver and it's antenna but could not locate them. Do you know where the receiver and antenna are and how I can check to see if they are working properly?
ANSWER: I need to determine whether it's a factory alarm
issue or, if it's an aftermarket system you are
dealing with.
Is it: Headlights flashing, car horn honking
and a worded SECURITY" light in the dash flashing?
(doubtfull since none of the notes show this
car as having a factory alarm system)=FACTORY
Or,
is it: flashing parking lights,
an LED in the dash area, and a siren
going off?= AFTER MARKET
Let me know more on this to better
advise you on a course of action
to take.

QUESTION: It is a factory system. It unlocks the driver door by pushing unlock once and all doors by pushing it twice. It has a door lock button and a panic button. It has a theft light on the instrument cluster.
Thanks for the help.
AnswerNormally, you would insert the key in
the drivers door, turn left, then right
to disarm and reset it. If yours is malfunctioning,
you can disable it for good by doing the following:
Find the FACTORY ALARM DISARM wire.
It is DARK GREEN/VIOLET (-) located in the
driver's kick panel.
Once Located, splice into this wire with
a simular guage wire, and put it to
a solid chassis ground. This terminates
the OEM alarm functions entirely.
However, at this point, this car would be exceedingly
easy to steel, so I suggest you get an aftermarket
alarm system to protect it from here on in.
Good luck.
