I have a 1997 lincoln continental that started and then shortly after shutoff and hasn't been able to start since. The car cranks over but does not fire. This has happened to me before but the problem fixed itself and the car ran fine until now.  I have received information that the securilock keys have chips that can become loose and even fall out.  My question is that is it possible for these chips to become loose and fall out, and what other possiblities are there that could cause the car not to start.

Hell Nick, I'm not gonna say it's not possible.
(highly improbably maybe) but all things are
possible right?

Here's the deal. The car has the Ford PATS
fuel injection cut off in the ignition.
the ignition switch has a reader on it the matches
the 2, and then allows the starter to get fuel to
start. The key you have there either needs to be
reprogramed due to a powered down or mis aligned
chipset or, you just need to get the KX04 PKFORD
bypass kit to circumvent it alltogether. ($66.95)

Then the PATS (PASSIVE ANTI THEFT SYSTEM)
is terminated, and you can use any standard key
from that point.

That'a the news. Ain't pretty, but if you want to
go price this at the local Lincoln dealer, I think
it's a tad cheaper then they're solution.

Labor on it is usually around
50 to 70 for a prof. installer.
