Question
My Trans am was stolen in Sacramento, CA, the police recovered it in Reno, NV, and the tow company said it seems that there is an alarm issue, it runs but shuts down.  How can I bypass that system to drive it home?  It's costing a fortune having it at the impound yard.  Again, it's a 93 Pontiac Trans Am, V-8, 5.7 Liter 350 hp engine.  Also, they have replaced the ignition somehow. Please help.

Ok then, from your desription and the
make/model/year of the car you have there,
it appears you've reset the VATS.

The car's security immobilizer
reader at the key switch
does not recognize the coded
chip in the ignition key any longer.

Solution 1: Re tow to a pontiac service department
and have them re programm new keys to the ignition
($$$)
Or
2. Set up a permanant bypass to solve
this issue for good.

The permanent solution is.
Adding the PLJX learning Bypass module (59.95)
will bypass the VATS system in your vehicle

Once gotten, tow it to a good car alarm
installation shop, have it installed, and
then go have keys made at any hardware store.
The end, no more GM VATS.

At this point however, the car is simple to steal
too, so you may want to get a decent after market
system shortly there after.

I'd go with the bypass if it were me.
Hate the GM vats system. But that's just me.
