Question -
have a 1999 ford escort sitting in my driveway runs good except for a clanking noise when u idle seems to disipate while excelerating then comes back at a idle or at least louder at idle any ideas? hoping its nothing major car runs good other than the noise.

Answer -
I have bad news for you, The odds are is that you have a broken or loose lifter on the top of the motor. When it is under load (acceleration) it actualy tightens up a little. Remove the valve cover and take a look. The one that moves on you is probably the culprete.

Answer
If I was correct on the diagnosis, then the repair could be as simple as removing the head cover and replacing and re torqueing the lifter bolt. If you take it to a shop the repair could reange from 175.00-500.00 depending if the shop is not going to try and rip you off.
