Question
QUESTION: about the radiator support, instead of welding, can I use rivets instead?

ANSWER:  The radiator support is also a major part of you structure. I would definitely advise against pop riveting it in. It would not last long and would be dangerous.

QUESTION: what if I use bolts instead. would that be ok?

Answer
Bolts would be better but still dangerous. It is welded for a reason, strength. Strength to reinforce your upper and lower side rails. One of the key points to the integrity of your structure is right there in the core support. The car may never pass a safety inspection either if you did that.
