Auto body repair & detailing/surface rust

Question
Will walnut shells remove surface rust? Are they good for paint removal? Can soda blast be used in a gravity feel sand blaster? I am getting ready to start on my first project a 77 Ford F100 step side. The truck has a lot of surface rust on the roof. I will be replacing the cab corners fenders and hood. Thank you for your help

Answer
Hi Ron,

I have a friend that does all types of blasting and uses walnut shell and phosphate primarily for paint removal. As far as Soda being used through a gravity feed blaster I honestly don't know. My guess would be the tip size of the blast nozzle. If it's too big it won't work. You could always give it a try. Baking Soda is pretty cheap.
