Auto body repair & detailing/Paint Removal

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2005 Lexus 470L.  I park in an underground garage and yesterday I brushed a white painted support pillar when I cut the corner of my assigned parking spot too close.  Naturally, my second day on the job! There is white paint on a small part of the body by the fender and on the plastic/rubber running board and outside decorative mouldings that run along the side of the vehicle. Is there any way to remove this white paint and/or will I need to replace the plastic panels and have the vehicle touched-up at the dealership?

ANSWER: Hi Don,

There are a couple of things you can try. Try using a fingernail polish remover that has acetone in it. This most likely will do the job. However, if that doesn't work you can try this item:

Be forewarned if you use these wipes you must neutralize the area where it was applied after you're finished or it will remove the factory finish all the way to the metal. This product works fabulous if used with caution. There are also other types of over-spray removal products on the market that will also but not as well. I hope this helps.

QUESTION: Does this stuff work on both the sheet metal and the plastic mouldings? What about the mobile over-spray removal services that are advertised on the web?

Answer
Hi Don,

Yes, it will work on plastic as well as metal surfaces. I'm sure that the mobile over-spray removal services would do a good job for you as well. I don't have any idea what they charge. You also might consider trying the folks who do your auto detailing work. I'm sure they can do the job as well. Good luck with it all.
