Auto body repair & detailing/Rear View Mirror

Question
I have a '98 Nissan Altima and the rear view mirrow is very difficult to attach on the windshield.  I have gone through three Permatex professional strength rearview mirror adhesive kits. The directions were easy to follow, doing exactly what was written.  The metal button would not stick. Is there another procedure or kit out there?

Answer
Hi Shirl,

I would try and clean the windshield with some type of solvent based cleaner. It sounds like there may be some type of film on the glass that's preventing the adhesive from adhering. You might also sand the area on the glass where the button will be applied. Try to keep the sand marks under where the button will be placed. I would use probably 320 grit or #0 Steel Wool. You can try this link for another brand of adhesive: http://www.repaintsupply.com/pd_rearview.cfm
I hope this helps out.
