Auto body repair & detailing/how much paint

Question
Gary I have a 67 chevelle that I am restoring and painting this week. I have primed with k38 and blocked that then I am sealing with k36 tinted white. I am painting with dbc viper red and using either 2021 or 4000 clear. I am only painting the exterior of the car the jams underside of trunk and back side of fenders. How much paint would you recommend buying. My painter wants 2 gallons of base. He is not used to using the dbc, he uses dupont nason and I told him that the dbc covers alot better from what I have been told I am just wondering what you would suggest.

Thanks
Jamie

Answer
Hi Jamie,

Each painter paints a little differently and can use more or less depending on technique. My best guess would be 1 gallon and 1 quart. 1 gallon for the exterior should cover the car and 1 quart for jambing-in parts. Good luck with it all!
