i am getting my cars hood repainted due to chips caused by flying rocks on the highway and whatnot... i was curious if adding many many coats of clear coat would prevent this from happening again?

I real quality clear will slow it down, the best way is to stay way back from the cars in front of you. Sometimes you don't realize how much damage you do to your car by following close on the highway. I can always tell a tailgater by the front of the car, the paint is blasted along with the windshield and chrome.
