Auto body repair & detailing/97 Honda Civic Front Bumper Damage

Question
My 97 Honda Civic Front Bumper was backed into and needs replaced.  My insurance company is telling me the total cost to purchase, paint and install the bumper will be $425.  Is this a reasonable amount?

Thanks

Answer
Cart, average bumper replacement is between 450-1200. The price seems low. This sounds like an insurance adjuster quote. They write the estimates very low; hoping you cash out and don't get repairs done. This saves them money. You can get a few quotes from a few bodyshops and chances are good the insurance estimate will not cover the amount needed to repair or replace the bumper. Labor rates vary from shop to shop; this can make the price of estimates go up or down. If the estimate was written by a shop you like, get a written lifetime warranty or don't use that shop. There may also be hidden damage behind the bumper (60% chance there is). Do not settle with insurance until all repairs are completed to your satisfaction.
Good Luck Tom. Hope this helps. David
