Question
My car paint is peeling very bad on the hood of my car and beginning to everywhere else as well.  I have a black '99 Toyota Solara and I think it is only the clear coat that is peeling but then again I know nothing about paint so I could very possibly be wrong.  I am wondering if you could give me a range of estimates about how much that would cost for just a clear coat.  Thanks so much for your time!

Answer
Hi Tara,

All the parts that are peeling will need to be repainted because as soon as the clear peels the sun's u.v. light begins breaking down the base-color underneath the clear. This causes it to change color ever so slightly and will in time loose adhesion. If you had the whole car re-cleared it wouldn't last and would begin to peel again very soon. Also the color would look very blotchy because of the fade of the base color. Best advice: Go to a local automotive paint store and get a recommendation of where you might be able to take your car to have it completely re-painted at a reasonable price.
