Auto body repair & detailing/2001 Grand Prix rust on driver's side door

Question
Hi Mike,

I have a 2001 Grand Prix (2dr GPT) with significant rust on the driver's side door.  What are my options for fixing it myself? Can I just replace the exterior door panel or do I have to replace the whole door? Would I need a special tool to reset the main computer if I replace the door? Do I have to worry about triggering/reseting airbag sensors?  I've gotten some estimates on repairs but they seem high compared to the value of the car.

Thanks,

nate

Answer
Don't worry about any sensors, you will have the battery unhooked anyway. Go to www.car-par.com for a used door, call the company and check color codes, you may get lucky and find one the same color. You can usaully put on a used door for less than the cost of replacing a repair panel.
