Auto body repair & detailing/Earl Scheib Paint Question

Question
Gary,
I own a car that has an Earl Scheib Platinum paint job on it; the paint is advertised as Acrylic Urethane with High Solids Urethane Clear topcoat.  I'm wondering if I can spray a Urethane clear over it, like a product from PPG or DuPont.  I'm not sure if the colored paint is catalyzed or not.....

Answer
Hi Joe,

If it's a true urethane then it must have catalyst in it. If not, it would have never dried. So with that said, Yes, you can clear-coat over it. You will need to wet sand it with probably 1200 grit. Before you start you will need to soak your sandpaper for 20-30 minutes.
