Hi

I just purchased a restored 1969 Camaro Z28 from a classic car dealer here in Maryland.  

Upon taking the car home, I notices a four-inch long and 1/32’-1/64”wide crack on the hood of the car right in the middle along the ridge.  It appeared that someone had attempted to dab paint on the car to conceal the crack.

Naturally the dealer is now claiming that it was sold as is…etc.  

My concern is how do I fix this crack in a cost effective manner.  Is this something I can do myself or do I need to have the entire hood, along with the racing stripes painted…

Hi Alex,

To fix it correctly so that you would be happy with it you might as well have it repainted. Otherwise, you can probably go to a local paint store and have them get a computerized match on it and make up some touch-up paint and try to re-touch it up. Just remember, Touch-up paint is basically a band aid. At some point in the future you will have to have more extensive work done.

When you decide to have it painted make sure you use someone who does restoration projects for a living. If you use the average body shop to re-paint it you most likely won't be happy.
