Auto body repair & detailing - airbrush for touchup

Expert: Michael Kakuk - 10/24/2009

Question
Can an airbrush be used to touchup paint chips, most are on leading vertical edge of 99 tahoe hood?  Or does entire panel / hood need to be repainted?

How much overspray with airbrush?  How can it be removed and blended in.  Vehicle has Pewter Metalic Flake with clearcoat finish.

Thank You,
John

Answer
JOHN.... I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THE AIRBRUSH. THE CHIPS WOULD STILL BE THERE JUST THE SAME COLOR AS THE CAR. GET TOUCH UP PAINT FROM THE DEALER AND WITH A SMALL BRUSH OR MATCHSTICK APPLY SEVERAL
COATS WITHOUT TRYING TO FILL CHIP AT ONE TIME.

IF YOU HAVE A SMALL CHIP THAT YOU WANT TO FILL YOU CAN USE A SYRINGE IF YOU WANT TO GET FANCY.

BACK TO THE AIRBRUSH QUESTION.....IT IS POSSIBLE TO SPRAY THE COLOR BUT YOU WOULD HAVE TO ALSO SPRAY CLEAR COAT AFTER YOU SPRAYED THE BASE COAT AND THE COST OF THE MATERIALS WOULD NOT BE EFFECTIVE.
