Auto body repair & detailing - Polycarbonite headlght yellowing

Expert: Bob - 5/3/2009

Question
My 96 Mercury Sable's headlight assemblies are yellowish on the outside surface.

Q # 1 Do the polishing kits really yield more light output?

Q# 2 Is the polishing repair long lasting?

Q# 3 Which one(s) would you recommend?

Thank you in advance.

Answer
The only way to clear the lens properly is to wet sand, compound, polish, wax and reapply the UV coating that was put on by the factory. The coats of this type of service should be no more than $100.00 for the pair.

I have tried the chemical repair kits. They provide very limited clearing of the lens. If you can see cracking inside the lens than it might be better to replave the lenses.

I hope this answers your question.

Bob
